Public Interest Research Groups - Public Interest Research Groups (also known as PIRGs) are volunteer-driven, non-profit organizations across the North American continent, originally based mostly out of University campuses, but today also having robust citizen memberships. Inspiration for PIRGs started in 1970 when public advocate Ralph Nader spoke on college campuses across the country about increasing student involvement in society.
Center for Planetary Research - The Center for Planetary Science at the University of Copenhagen was created in February 2001 when the planetary science groups from NBIfAFG and DSRI were merged. Together with associated national and international groups it aims to strengthen planetary research in Denmark and to provide a platform for the education of planetary researchers.
Internet Research Task Force - The Internet Research Task Force (IRTF) is a sister group to the Internet Engineering Task Force (IETF). Its stated mission is “To promote research of importance to the evolution of the future Internet by creating focused, long-term and small Research Groups working on topics related to Internet protocols, applications, architecture and technology”.

In the social sciences, qualitative research is a broad term that describes research that focuses on how individuals and groups view and understand the world and construct meaning out of their experiences; it is essentially narrative-oriented.
